A diesel engine and an electric motor are on the same shaft for redundancy. We then use supercapacitor energy storage to power the electric motor up to 8 knots and use the diesel engine for higher speeds. When Hydrogen consumption is active, the energy from the fuel cell is sent to the supercapacitors to be used by the electric motors for an additional 80 NM of range.
